Poppy Projects 2018

Tuesday 23 January 2018

Please accept this personal invitation to be a part of the ‘Junee’s Poppy Project 2018’. This is a community initiative organised by the Junee / Illabo Red Cross and Junee Evening Branch of CWA.

We want to unite the Junee community in commemorating the centenary of the end of WW1 in 2018. There will be two projects running that need crochet or knitted RED Poppies. The first project is for a local Tribute for ANZAC Day 2018 and the second is the collection of Poppies to be send to the Australian War Memorial for their display for REMEMBRANCE DAY 2018. We are partnering with ‘5000 poppies’ for the Australian War Memorial (AWM) display.

We are aiming to send all Poppies made for the Junee ANZAC Day display to the AWM also. For this to be possible they must meet the guidelines specified on the attached flyer. The AWM Poppies will need to withstand weather in Canberra for 5 weeks, therefore they must be made to the guidelines.

Please read the ‘Junee’s Poppy Projects 2018’ and ‘Poppy patterns from 5000 poppies’. Feel free to copy and distribute as needed. We all know word of mouth is the best way to spread the word, so please spread the word to everyone you know.

We will be engaging the community in Poppy Making gathering and workshops. So if you would like learn a new skill of crocheting or knitting while making something meaningful here is your chance. You and your organisation are welcome to go ahead and hold your own Poppy making workshops and get as many people involved as possible. Completed poppies can be dropped off at either of the collection locations at the Junee Library or the Junee Ex-services Club.
