Australia Day Nominations

23 Nov 2017 12:00 AM -

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Australia Day Awards. Nominations must be in writing and must address the criteria for each of the categories you are nominating  in.

  • Citizen of the Year     - A person 25 years of age or over who has given conspicuous service to an organisation or the community generally, or to specific causes.
  • Young Citizen of the Year   - The criteria is the same as for Citizen of the Year, however the person nominated must be under 25 years of age as at 1 January 2018. Of necessity, the emphasis need not be on longstanding contributions. Consideration will also be given to acts of compassion, generosity, bravery, etc.
  • Sports Award  - These awards recognise outstanding achievement in sporting performance, at local, regional, state, national or international levels. An individual or a team may be nominated.
  • Young Sports Award  - As for the Sports Award, but for persons aged 18 years or under as of 1 January 2018.
  • Volunteer Team of the Year  - A team of volunteers who have worked together on a common project or program (must be an autonomous group, not part of a larger group).

It is important that the above criteria be addressed for each nomination.

To be eligible for an award, nominees must be a resident in the Junee Shire. Nominations may be submitted on a form available to   download, or in the form of a letter.

Nominations close on Friday, 19 January 2018 and can be lodged at the Council Chambers, or posted to PO Box 93, Junee. Nominations should be clearly marked Australia Day Committee.

If you have seen or heard of anyone that you think meets the criteria for one of the above categories, please think about nominating them.
