Nominate now for NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards

29 May 2018 4:15 PM -

Nominate now for biggest celebration of volunteering across the Murray and Riverina regions.

People from across the Murray and Riverina regions are being urged to nominate their neighbours, colleagues or family members for the 2018 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards – the largest event celebrating the efforts of volunteering throughout the area.

Last year, more than 12,400 nominations were received for the Murray and Riverina Regional Award categories with four dedicated volunteers chosen to represent the regions at the NSW Volunteer of the Year Award State Finals.

Representatives from the Murray Art Museum volunteers and Australian Red Cross Telecross Wagga Wagga Volunteer Coordinators were also selected for the Volunteer Team of the Year from the area. The award finalists included:

  • Kim Langston and Judi Garvi from the Murray Art Museum volunteers
  • Gregory Johnson from Wagga Wagga for his volunteer work with the NSW Cancer Council; and
  • Moya Dunn from the Riverina Community College Community Visitor’s Scheme

The Centre for Volunteering’s Chief Executive Officer Gemma Rygate said the annual awards were the State’s way to recognise the outstanding work and achievements of volunteers around the area.

“We know that people from regional areas like Murray and Riverina are more likely to generously give their time to help their local communities,” Ms Rygate said.

“These Awards are an important way for every person across the area to say thank you. Don’t think twice about nominating a volunteer for an award or a special certificate of recognition.”

The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards is an annual program run by The Centre for Volunteering to recognise the outstanding work of volunteers in every region across NSW. The Riverina Regional Award ceremony – including the Murray region will be held at the end of August at Wagga Waagga, with award recipients invited to the State 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award ceremony on November 30.

There are seven award categories:

  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Adult Volunteer of the Year
  • Senior Volunteer of the Year
  • Volunteer Team of the Year
  • Corporate Volunteer of the Year (individual)
  • Corporate Volunteer Team of the Year
  • Excellence in Volunteer Management

Award Nominations are open until Friday 13 July 2015 at www.volunteering.com.au
