Save the Date!! 25 May for the Junee Volunteers' Summit

17 May 2018 4:35 PM -

21% of Junee’s entire population carry out some kind of volunteer work every week. That’s one person in every five people, taking time out to help another person or to contribute their skills to a project or group.

To recognise these fantastic community participants and provide a networking and learning opportunity Junee Shire Council will be hosting a Volunteers’ Summit, inviting volunteers and potential volunteers from all around the region to come to Junee for this free event.

Attendees will hear from expert and experienced volunteers from throughout the Riverina region on key topics of;

  • Managing risk and insurance
  • Raising funds
  • Attracting and keeping volunteer members
  • Marketing and social media
  • Along with some personal and moving stories of volunteering from members of the community.

Along with presentations, attendees can expect to participate in workshops, share information about their own group or club in the exhibition areas and participate in networking and speed dating sessions.

Grant Johnson, Director of Business and Community at Junee Shire says the response so far has been terrific.

“We know that 21% of our Junee shire population already carry out some kind of voluntary work every week – which in itself is extraordinary in a small shire; and that this unsung industry keeps the ‘wheels on’ for many members of our community, but it is also a great source of social well-being, inclusiveness, and skill sharing. A lot of people are volunteering simply because it’s fun and the opportunity to develop friendships.”

Clubs and organisations from all aspects of volunteering are registered to attend the event; from ukulele players, train spotters, amateur groups, business and sporting groups, history buffs, op shops, charities, and village hall committees. “We did not expect such a rich mixture of people to attend, and we think that this will make the day all the better.” said Mr Johnson.
