GIS Officer - Permanent Full-Time

Junee Shire Council is currently seeking a skilled GIS Officer to join our IT Department on a permanent, full-time basis. If you thrive in a collaborative, problem-solving environment and want to contribute to meaningful local government initiatives, we want to hear from you!

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the IT Manager, the GIS Officer will be responsible for the effective application of GIS technology to support Council operations. You will manage and analyse spatial data, develop GIS tools, and provide vital geospatial insights that inform decision-making. You will also play a key role in improving Council’s GIS capabilities, working with both internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery.

As the GIS Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Responding to mapping requests, developing and maintaining spatial databases, and supporting GIS Asset Management and property register systems.
  • Ensuring GIS data quality, compliance with data agreements, and contributing to system improvements.
  • Assisting with spatial analysis and contributing to GIS-related projects as directed by the IT Manager.
  • Collaborating with the IT Manager to meet business objectives and provide training to junior staff in the IT Department.

IS THIS POSITION FOR YOU?

To succeed in this position, you will possess:

  • Completion of HSC or equivalent.
  • Current Class C NSW Driver’s Licence.
  • Previous experience in GIS, preferably within local government or the public sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with survey, engineering plans, and geospatial data interpretation.
